“Canadian Swimmers Shine at Pan Pacific Championships”

Canadian swimmers Taylor Ruck and Summer McIntosh had contrasting results at the Pan Pacific championships in Irvine, Calif. Ruck secured a silver medal in the women’s 100m butterfly and later claimed bronze as part of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, bringing her total medals for the competition to five. Ruck set a personal best time of 56.71 seconds in the butterfly, finishing behind American Gretchen Walsh. Meanwhile, McIntosh, the 19-year-old from Toronto and world-record holder, expressed disappointment after failing to qualify for the A final in the women’s 400m freestyle event. McIntosh took full responsibility for her misjudgment and vowed to learn from the experience. Despite this setback, McIntosh excelled in other events, finishing second in the women’s 200m freestyle and winning gold in the 400m individual medley. The Canadian men’s side also saw success with Blake Tierney and Ethan Ekk capturing silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 200m backstroke. Tierney, in particular, celebrated his first international gold medal in the men’s 100m backstroke earlier in the competition. The Canadian women’s team, led by Ruck, secured a bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay event. However, the Canadian men’s 4x100m freestyle team narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth. The U.S. claimed gold in the men’s and women’s relay events, with Australia and Japan also earning medals. McIntosh will look to bounce back in the upcoming 200m IM event, where she holds multiple titles.
