“Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Skyrocket, Mario Kart World Dominates Charts”

In 2025, Nintendo enthusiasts were thrilled with the debut of the Switch 2, the successor to the popular handheld gaming system from the company. Despite launching mid-year, the Switch 2 had an impressive start, surpassing 17 million unit sales within its first seven months on the market, outpacing the original Nintendo Switch’s sales during the same timeframe.

Nintendo also shared data on the sales of its first-party games for the Switch 2. Mario Kart World led the sales charts with 14.03 million units sold, being the first new installment in the series in over a decade. The game’s launch title status and bundled offerings likely contributed to its success.

Following closely, Donkey Kong Bananza, an exclusive title for the Switch 2, achieved 4.25 million unit sales since its release in July. The game, developed by the team behind Mario Odyssey, received acclaim for its innovative gameplay mechanics.

In third place, the Switch 2 version of Pokemon Legends: Z-A sold 3.89 million units, despite being launched in mid-October. Notably, this figure only includes sales on the Switch 2, with additional sales on the original Nintendo Switch not accounted for in this data.

Kirby Air Riders also made the list with 1.76 million units sold, showcasing solid performance for a niche racing game within Nintendo’s lineup.

The strong start of the Nintendo Switch 2 signals anticipation for Nintendo’s upcoming releases in 2026, including titles like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Mario Tennis Fever. Fans await further announcements, with expectations of a Nintendo Direct event in the near future.
