Zelensky Challenges Putin to Kyiv Peace Talks

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has challenged Vladimir Putin to come to Kyiv for peace talks, stating that meeting in Moscow is not feasible. The potential peace discussions involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States may face delays due to tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Zelensky expressed willingness to host Putin in Kyiv for constructive negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.

In response to recent attacks by Russia on Ukraine, causing injuries and damages, Zelensky emphasized the importance of productive discussions to achieve a genuine resolution to the war. Concerns over the timing of the upcoming negotiations in Abu Dhabi arose due to the situation between the U.S. and Iran, potentially affecting the scheduled meeting.

Meanwhile, Russia launched assaults on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, causing destruction to industrial sites and a residential building. Amidst the harsh winter conditions in Kyiv, with temperatures dropping below -16C, the city awaits confirmation that Russia will adhere to an agreement to temporarily halt attacks on Ukraine’s power grid.

Although President Trump claimed that Putin agreed to a week-long ceasefire on targeting Ukrainian cities, Zelensky remained skeptical about Russia’s intentions to end the conflict. Ukraine expressed readiness to cease attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure if Moscow reciprocates by halting strikes on Ukrainian power facilities. Emergency measures, such as setting up heating tents, are being implemented in Ukrainian cities to prevent casualties due to extreme cold.

To mitigate the impact of energy shortages, parts of Kyiv’s water system have been deactivated, aiming to prevent system failures. The ongoing developments reflect the escalating tensions and humanitarian challenges faced by Ukraine amidst the conflict.
