Revel Collective Enters Administration Talks

The Revel Collective, a well-known nightlife enterprise with iconic establishments like Revolucion de Cuba, has disclosed plans to appoint administrators while indicating advanced discussions regarding a potential sale. The group, which oversees various venues including popular spots like Revs and Peach Pubs, has taken steps to file a notice for administration to safeguard creditors.

Despite this action, they have revealed ongoing negotiations for a potential sale and anticipate making a formal announcement in the near future. The company emphasized that the proposed transactions are not anticipated to yield returns for shareholders, prompting the board to initiate measures to protect creditors by potentially appointing administrators within the next ten business days.

Assuring that business operations will persist, the company mentioned its commitment to collaborating with advisors to uphold stakeholder value during the progression of a prospective sale of either the entire business or select segments. Concerns arise as over 60 venues could be vulnerable if administration becomes necessary.

This development follows a strategic review and sales process initiation by the operator about three months ago. The Revel Collective has reportedly faced challenges amid the current cost-of-living crisis and recent minimum wage adjustments. Formerly known as Revolution Bars Group after restructuring in autumn 2024, the company cited unfavorable economic conditions and the combined impact of government interventions hindering performance improvement.

Factors like employer NICs threshold, spirit duty costs, and the heightened minimum wage have created an annual excess of £4m, contributing to the company’s financial strain. In its efforts to explore potential acquisitions last December, the company acknowledged that anticipated transactions were unlikely to benefit shareholders.

Originating as a modest bar in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester in 1991, the group expanded nationwide, operating over 60 venues by last year. Presently, the company manages numerous bars and gastropubs under brands such as Revolution, Revolución de Cuba, and Peach Pubs.
