A woman in her forties has passed away following a severe head injury from a suspected assault outside a bar. Liam Moor, 19, faces a manslaughter charge after Lisa Denton, 40, was hospitalized in critical condition around 10pm on Saturday. The incident occurred at Charlie’s Bar on Russell Street, leading to the closure of the establishment.
Despite medical efforts, Ms. Denton succumbed to her injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital. Moor, residing on Telford Street in the East Howdon area, has been remanded in custody for one count of manslaughter, awaiting a hearing at Bedlington Magistrates’ Court.
Another woman in her fifties was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender and has been released on police bail pending further investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton, the Senior Investigating Officer, expressed condolences, stating, “This is a profoundly tragic event resulting in the loss of a woman’s life. Our sympathies are with Lisa’s family during this difficult time. We are committed to assisting them as they cope with this loss.”
He urged the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the legal process as the case progresses.
