Manhunt Intensifies for Suspect in Lake Cargelligo Shooting

A significant search operation is ongoing as authorities continue to hunt down a suspect involved in a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including the suspect’s former pregnant partner. The incident occurred in Lake Cargelligo, a small Australian town, on January 22.

Recent CCTV footage has revealed that the alleged gunman, identified as Julian Ingram, visited a police station on the same day of the shooting. Ingram, also known as Pierpoint, reportedly opened fire on Sophie Quinn, 24, and John Harris, 32, as they were driving on Bokhara Street. He then proceeded to a house in the town where he shot Sophie’s aunt, Nerida Quinn, 50, and injured Kaled Macqueen, 19, who remains hospitalized.

Authorities disclosed that Ingram had been released on bail for domestic violence charges prior to the incident. Descriptions of Ingram indicate he is of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent, approximately 165-170cm tall, with a medium build, short dark hair, brown eyes, and several tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a yellow and navy high visibility shirt, navy cargo pants, black boots, and a red cap.

Despite extensive search efforts, authorities believe the suspect is still at large. Assistant Commissioner Andy Holland stated that the search is challenging due to the suspect’s familiarity with potential hiding spots like caves.

Over the past week, numerous properties have been searched, and various leads are being pursued, including a sighting of a man on a bike who evaded police. Holland urged anyone aiding Ingram to consider the impact on the community, emphasizing the severity of the crimes committed.

Ingram had previously been granted bail in 2025 for assaulting Quinn after their separation, facing charges of stalking, intimidation, and assault. The suspect’s vehicle, a Ford Ranger utility with NSW registration DM-07-GZ and distinctive features, remains missing. Authorities advise the public not to approach Ingram or the vehicle but to contact emergency services immediately if spotted.
