“Ubisoft Cancels Co-Op DLC Project for Assassin’s Creed Shadows”

Ubisoft has reportedly canceled a co-op focused DLC project for last year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was internally known as Assassin’s Creed League. The project, planned to feature scripted missions playable in up to four-player co-op within parts of the Shadows map, was in development at Ubisoft Annecy, the studio known for the multiplayer modes of earlier Assassin’s Creed games.

The decision to scrap the project came recently, leaving developers who were working on it without a current assignment. This move follows Ubisoft’s restructuring efforts, which involve segregating internal teams into ‘Creative Houses’, with the Assassin’s Creed franchise now falling under Ubisoft Vantage, a subsidiary co-financed by Tencent.

Despite the cancellation of the Shadows-themed DLC, Ubisoft Annecy is redirecting efforts to integrate key multiplayer features back into the Anvil engine used by Assassin’s Creed, aiming to facilitate the creation of future multiplayer modes. However, concerns arise about potential staff layoffs as the company continues with its restructuring process.

Additionally, Origami reports that the cancellation of Assassin’s Creed League is part of a series of project cancellations by Ubisoft, including six other unannounced projects that were axed. The rumored Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, originally slated for release this year, is now postponed to 2027 as part of the restructuring.

In response to the recent changes at Ubisoft, employees at French studios are expected to strike between February 10 and 12. Mirror Online sought a comment from Ubisoft regarding the reported cancellation of Assassin’s Creed League, but the publisher declined to provide a response.
