“Skier attacked by snow leopard taking risky selfie”

A skier was attacked by a snow leopard while trying to take a selfie too close to the wild animal. Video footage captured the moment when the woman was on the ground with the leopard standing over her. The skier was assisted by bystanders after the animal moved away when a ski instructor intervened.

This incident occurred in the Keketuohai Unesco Global Geopark in northwest China. The victim, a female tourist, suffered severe facial injuries after getting too close to the leopard while attempting to photograph it. Fortunately, her helmet likely prevented more serious harm. She was promptly taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

Local officials in Fuyun county responded by increasing patrols, reinforcing barriers, and enhancing public awareness in the area. They emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and avoiding contact with wild animals.

China, home to the majority of the world’s snow leopard population, rarely sees attacks on humans due to the elusive nature of these animals. Recent sightings of snow leopards in the region have been attributed to heavy snowfall driving them down from the mountains in search of food.

In a separate incident, a zookeeper in Uzbekistan tragically lost his life after being attacked and eaten by lions he was trying to recapture. The man’s remains were found in the lions’ cage, prompting zoo staff to take necessary actions to secure the escaped animals.
