Traffic on the M62 came to a standstill this evening as emergency crews responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision. The incident occurred on the eastbound lanes between junctions J21 for A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way in Milnrow and J22 for A672 at Rishworth Moor.

At the scene, police officers and medics from the North West Ambulance Service were present, with traffic congestion increasing, as seen on motorway cameras. While the road was reopened and traffic was moving smoothly again, delays of approximately 10 minutes persisted compared to normal traffic flow.

National Highways confirmed that the severe collision at junction J22 on the M62 eastbound had been cleared. Despite the reopening of the carriageway and resumption of traffic in both directions, drivers were cautioned about ongoing delays.

A section of the M62 spanning nearly three miles from junction 21 to junction 22 was experiencing traffic hold-ups. This affected area lies to the east of Rochdale, a key route connecting Manchester and Leeds.

Live traffic updates from Inrix reported a temporary hold on all traffic due to the accident on the M62 Eastbound from J21 to J22. Motorists were advised to anticipate lengthy delays following the multi-vehicle crash this evening.
