Resident Evil Requiem has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first game in the renowned horror series to launch on the new Nintendo Switch 2. This ninth main installment in the Resident Evil franchise is set to release on consoles and PC on February 27, marking a departure from older gaming platforms as it will be exclusively available on PC, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

In a move that will undoubtedly make history for both Nintendo and the Resident Evil series, Requiem will be the first mainline entry to debut simultaneously on a Nintendo Switch console. Previous titles like Resident Evil 5, 6, and 7 made their way to the Switch much later, with Resident Evil 7 and Village only accessible through cloud streaming on the original Switch.

The exclusive element for Switch 2 enthusiasts comes in the form of the first-ever Resident Evil Amiibos, recently revealed by All Out Gaming. Fans can look forward to purchasing two figurines later this year, featuring the main characters from Requiem.

During a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Amiibos for Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kenney, the main protagonists of Requiem, will be released in summer 2026. These figurines, depicting Grace with a black rucksack and brown jacket and Leon wielding a zombie-slaying hatchet, can unlock special in-game weapon skins when tapped on the Switch 2’s Joy-Con sensor.

While the Amiibos are not essential for gameplay, Capcom has confirmed that they will be available for purchase in the summer. Fans have eagerly welcomed this news, expressing excitement and anticipation for the upcoming release of the Resident Evil Requiem Amiibos.

Some speculate that the introduction of Amiibos could hint at a potential crossover into the Super Smash Bros lineup, sparking excitement among supporters. However, this remains more of a hopeful wish than a realistic expectation for now.
