“Raducanu Takes Time to Find Perfect Coach Fit”

Emma Raducanu has expressed that she is taking her time in the search for a new long-term coach following her recent split with Francisco Roig earlier this year. Roig, who previously coached Rafael Nadal for nearly two decades, became Raducanu’s ninth coach and seventh full-time coach to be let go during her career. The parting was attributed to differing opinions on her playing style.

Since January, Raducanu has been collaborating with her hitting partner Alexis Canter and is content with the current coaching arrangement as she prepares for the upcoming Indian Wells tournament in California, where she is set to compete against Anastasia Zakharova in the opening round.

The 23-year-old athlete has previously worked with various coaches including Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vladimir Platenik, Mark Petchey, and Roig. While Raducanu continues to work closely with Petchey on a daily basis, his broadcasting commitments limit his availability for full-time coaching.

In a recent interview with BBC Sport in California, Raducanu emphasized the importance of reconnecting with her natural playing instincts. She expressed a desire to avoid the pressure of adhering to a coach’s directives that may not align with her style. Despite keeping her options open, Raducanu is cautious about finding a coach who meets all her criteria.

Raducanu praised Petchey’s impact on her game, giving him high praise for his support and guidance during their time together. Reflecting on their collaboration, she highlighted the meaningful conversations and insights gained from their interactions, particularly recalling a transformative hike they shared in Los Angeles.

As Raducanu navigates her coaching decisions, she remains focused on rediscovering her authentic playing style and seeking guidance that resonates with her individual approach to the game.
