A man in his sixties, believed to be MP Dan Norris, has faced additional arrests related to allegations of rape, sexual assault, voyeurism, and upskirting, according to Avon and Somerset Police. Mr. Norris, who is currently suspended from the Labour Party, was initially apprehended last year on charges including sexual offenses against a girl, rape, child abduction, and misconduct in public office.
The man has now been further detained on suspicion of rape involving a second woman, sexual assault against a third woman, and voyeurism and upskirting incidents involving multiple women. Avon and Somerset Police stated that while the investigation into sexual offenses against children has ceased, the original probe into rape and public office misconduct is ongoing.
All the alleged offenses are reported to have taken place between the 2000s and 2020s, indicating the complexity and sensitivity of such investigations, which may require considerable time to conclude. The police spokesperson assured that victims are being kept informed of any progress and are being provided with necessary support. The individual in question, who has not been publicly identified, remains on conditional bail.
Mr. Norris, who was suspended from the Labour Party at the time of his arrest, was elected as the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham in the 2024 general election, defeating prominent Conservative former cabinet minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. He previously served as the Mayor of the West of England from 2021 to 2025 before stepping down upon his election to Parliament.
Having previously represented the Wansdyke constituency from 1997 to 2010, Mr. Norris held ministerial positions under Gordon Brown and served as an assistant whip under Tony Blair. Despite calls for resignation and a petition garnering nearly 3,000 signatures, the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham has refused to step down. His attendance in Parliament has been absent since being released on police bail, with the possibility of losing his seat if charged, convicted, or imprisoned.
