“Israeli Captive Ran Gvili’s Remains Found in Gaza”

The discovery of the final Israeli captive’s remains in Gaza has been confirmed by the Israeli Defences Forces (IDF). The body of Ran Gvili, a former sergeant first class in the Israeli police special forces, was located in the “Yellow Line” area of the northern Gaza Strip. The National Institute of Forensic Medicine, in collaboration with Israeli police and the military rabbinate, positively identified the recovered remains.

According to the IDF, Ran Gvili, a Yamam commando fighter, was killed during the October 7 Hamas attacks at Alumim kibbutz. The IDF expressed condolences to the family and highlighted their commitment to supporting returned hostages and enhancing Israel’s citizens’ security. With this discovery, all hostages from the Gaza Strip have now been accounted for.

Hamas issued a statement acknowledging the return of Gvili’s body as a demonstration of their compliance with the terms of the Gaza ceasefire agreement that commenced on October 10. The spokesman for Hamas, Hazem Qassem, emphasized their commitment to the ceasefire terms, including the prisoner exchange stipulation.

The conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting over 71,650 Palestinian deaths by Israeli forces since October 7, 2023. Additionally, more than 480 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli actions post-ceasefire implementation. On the Israeli side, Hamas’s attacks on October 7 led to the deaths of over 1,100 people and the capture of 251 hostages who were later taken to Gaza. Prior to the recovery of Gvili’s remains, 20 hostages had been released alive, and the remains of 27 others had been repatriated to Israel since the ceasefire, with Israel reciprocating by returning hundreds of Palestinian bodies to Gaza.

Recent incidents have added to the tension, as the IDF reported the fatal shooting of a Palestinian man in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood. Another Palestinian man lost his life in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
