A woman was left feeling violated after discovering a hidden camera under the seat of a restaurant toilet. The 32-year-old was dining with her partner at the popular Thai restaurant chain Giggling Squid in Leicester when she noticed the covert camera, causing her distress.
The NHS worker visited the eatery in December and expressed shock that she did not notice the camera until after using the toilet. The camera, disguised with kitchen roll, had a black lens visible and was connected to the internet.
Leicestershire police were informed about the incident and conducted an investigation, but no arrests have been made regarding the placement and livestream connection of the camera.
Recounting her experience to BBC News, the woman expressed feeling sick and disturbed by the invasion of privacy. She described the moment she discovered the camera, mentioning her discomfort at the thought of someone watching in such a private space.
Authorities retrieved the device for examination and reviewed restaurant CCTV footage to identify the culprit. Giggling Restaurants confirmed that a customer alerted staff about the suspicious object on the night of the incident.
The victim hopes that sharing her ordeal will raise awareness and prevent others from falling victim to such invasive acts. She advises the public to remain vigilant in public places, emphasizing the importance of being cautious even in seemingly safe environments.
Giggling Restaurants assured full cooperation with the police investigation into the matter.
