At least nine individuals have tragically lost their lives following a bus accident in a popular vacation spot. The intercity bus veered off the road and fell into a ravine in the Antalya province of southern Turkey over the weekend.

Pictures broadcasted on TRT, the state television channel, depicted the bus lying on its side on the edge of a highway embankment in Dosemealti, a district northwest of Antalya city center.

According to Provincial Governor Hulusi Sahin, 21 people sustained injuries, with some in critical condition. Seven of the injured individuals have suffered severe and life-altering wounds.

Reports from the DHA news agency revealed that several passengers were ejected from the bus, which had been traveling overnight from Tekirdag in Turkey’s northwest.

Antalya, a sought-after tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast, experienced heavy rainfall in recent days. Governor Sahin mentioned that the wet ground and foggy conditions made it unsafe for speeding, yet it appears the bus was traveling at high speed.

Allegedly, the driver lost control of the vehicle in thick fog and slippery road conditions while approaching a complex intersection. The bus crashed through roadside barriers and slid down the ravine, triggering an extensive rescue operation.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed the launch of a judicial inquiry into the incident, with specific prosecutors assigned to investigate the case.

Regrettably, the crash resulted in the confirmed deaths of nine individuals.
