The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list due to concussion symptoms on Saturday. In response, the team called up outfielder Daz Cameron from Triple-A Buffalo and designated right-hander Lazaro Estrada for assignment to free up space on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, Toronto brought up left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and sent right-hander Chase Lee down to Triple-A on the same day. Guerrero had to exit Friday’s 3-1 win against the Yankees after a collision with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a play at third base in the sixth inning.
Lombard inadvertently struck Guerrero’s head with his knee and thigh while attempting to leap over him as he slid into third base, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite the impact, Guerrero managed to run home and score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning.
Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who has a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, remains a key player for the Blue Jays. Tiedemann, who had a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in seven games (including two starts) across different minor league levels this season, has been called up to provide pitching depth for the team.
