“AMD Hints Next Xbox Release in 2027”

A recent statement made during an earnings call by AMD suggests that the next Xbox console could potentially be released as soon as next year. Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, mentioned the development progress of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox, which will feature an AMD semi-custom SoC and is expected to support a launch in 2027.

While Microsoft has not officially confirmed the existence of a next-generation console, the news follows the recent launch of Microsoft’s handheld gaming consoles, Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X, which also utilize custom AMD chips.

AMD chips currently power the majority of gaming consoles available today, including Sony’s PlayStation 5, Valve’s Steam Deck, and the upcoming Steam Machine. The only exception is Nintendo, which has partnered with Nvidia for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The speculated 2027 release date for the new Xbox aligns with the historical timelines between previous Xbox console generations. Xbox has chosen not to release a mid-generation refresh this time, in contrast to the PS5 Pro offering a more powerful hardware experience.

If a new Xbox console is indeed in the works for next year, pricing will be a crucial factor. The current hardware market faces pricing challenges due to AI data centers consuming a significant portion of available RAM resources, leading to increased prices. Valve’s delay in pricing its upcoming Steam Machines is believed to be influenced by these market conditions. Considering the high cost of the Xbox ROG Ally X console, it is likely that a new home console will be similarly priced.

Microsoft has not yet provided any official statement regarding the potential launch of a new Xbox console in 2027.
