The Ottawa Rapid have named Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This decision comes after current head coach Katrine Pedersen announced her departure from the team, which currently leads the Northern Super League.
Moscato, a renowned figure in Canadian soccer and a member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Having participated in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, she has also coached in various countries, including Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid have signed Moscato on a two-season contract, with her responsibilities starting immediately, focusing on preparations for the 2027 season, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership and expertise, citing her profound understanding of Canadian soccer.
In a statement, Moscato acknowledged the team’s progress and expressed her eagerness to contribute to its development further. Ottawa currently leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 games, maintaining a strong performance record since their last defeat in late May.
The team’s upcoming match will take place in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., with live coverage available on CBC Gem for fans to watch.
