Canada’s national police announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old individual for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, a resident of Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, as stated in an RCMP press release. The purported threats were conveyed via email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, the police disclosed in the press release. The accused also targeted “all Canadian police officers,” as documented in the official charge sheet.

Notably, Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement officials to CBC News. At the time of the recent incident, he was serving probation for those offenses, according to an RCMP representative. Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, though the allegations against him are yet to be proven in court.
