“Cocaine Bear: True Story of Drug Operation Tragedy”

In a shocking incident involving a failed drug operation, a 200-pound black bear unwittingly became a casualty of a massive shipment of Colombia’s pure cocaine that fell from an airplane.

The story of the bear, known as Pablo EskoBear or Snow Bear, is the basis for the movie “Cocaine Bear,” airing on Channel 4. The bear met a tragic end after ingesting 90 pounds of pure cocaine, leading to a multitude of fatal health complications.

During the “Bluegrass Conspiracy” era in 1985, former narcotics officer turned drug trafficker Andrew Thornton bailed out of a plane over the United States while transporting cocaine from Colombia. Tragically, he got entangled in his parachute, causing his death.

Investigators later discovered containers filled with cocaine in Chattahoochee National Forest, but instead of finding the drugs, they encountered a deceased black bear that had consumed a portion of the stash without displaying any aggressive behavior.

The bear’s body went through various owners before being displayed at the Kentucky Fun Mall, where it remains today. It is believed that the bear was not the only victim of Thornton’s drug activities, as more drugs were found dumped in rural areas following his death.

The movie “Cocaine Bear” will be broadcast on Channel 4 on January 31 at 9:30 pm.
