A woman at a bachelorette party reacted aggressively by hitting a man in the face with a pint glass after he jokingly tapped her with an inflatable golf club. Donna Stalker, in a pub in Tyneside, escalated a friendly exchange into violence by glassing the man in the face, causing significant injuries that required medical attention.
The victim, who was socializing with friends in the Head of Steam pub in Tynemouth, was approached by a group of women celebrating a hen party. The conversation included playful interactions with inflatable items. CCTV footage presented in court showed the victim lightly tapping Stalker, an NHS worker, with an inflatable golf club before she suddenly struck him with a glass without warning.
The man sustained severe injuries, including a deep laceration on his chin that needed ten stitches. He also suffered wounds on his nose and lip, requiring medical treatment. In a statement following the incident, the man expressed how the attack had negatively impacted his physical and mental well-being, preventing him from engaging in his usual sporting activities like boxing and football.
The victim mentioned his loss of confidence and concerns about potential long-term implications on his appearance and safety. Stalker, from Dunfermline, Scotland, admitted to the assault and was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to perform 150 hours of community service and pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim.
Stalker, who works part-time in the NHS and is a mother of three, expressed remorse for her actions and acknowledged the gravity of the harm caused. Her defense attorney highlighted her limited recollection of the event and emphasized her regret and shame over the consequences of her behavior.
