Veteran Horse Racing Trainer Critical After Accident

A veteran horse racing trainer is in critical condition at a hospital following an accident where he was struck by a horse at his stable in Dorset. Bill Turner, who celebrated his 78th birthday recently, sustained a severe head injury and was promptly taken to the hospital, where medical examinations revealed a fractured skull.

Matt Chapman, a presenter on Sky Sports Racing, shared that he communicated with Turner’s family. Turner’s wife Tracy and daughter Kathy are actively involved in managing the stable situated on the border of Dorset and Somerset. Chapman mentioned that Turner fell, causing a skull fracture, and is currently receiving medical care with the aid of a ventilator. The family is faced with a difficult decision regarding the ventilator within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Chapman also called upon the racing community to send their thoughts and prayers to Bill Turner. Turner, a licensed horse trainer under the British Horseracing Authority, is known for his success in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster, having trained six winners since 1996. Notably, his stable had a prosperous year with 29 victories and nearly £100,000 in prize money. One significant achievement was selling Mick’s Yer Man to Hong Kong, where the horse was renamed Always Win.

With a training history dating back to 1988, Turner has excelled in both flat and jump horse racing. The stable’s upcoming contender, Red Snapper, is anticipated to participate in a five-furlong nursery event at Chepstow on Thursday afternoon.
