“Urgent Appeal for Irish Mother’s Medical Repatriation”

An Irish family is urgently seeking assistance after their mother experienced a significant health crisis during a vacation in Spain.

Carol Callaghan, aged 58 and from Charleville, Co. Cork, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while out shopping with friends in Alicante. She was swiftly taken to the hospital, where doctors initially feared for her life. Despite spending a week in a coma, Carol managed to pull through, with the incident following a cautionary note to British tourists planning all-inclusive trips to Spain.

While Carol is still in intensive care, medical professionals in Spain have informed her family that further treatment is necessary for her recovery, specifically specialized rehabilitation in Ireland. Her son, Jack, spoke about their ordeal on a local radio station, mentioning the need for intensive care support during her potential flight back home and subsequent rehabilitation once her tracheostomy is removed.

Facing financial challenges as her insurance provider declined coverage for an air ambulance and medical team for repatriation, the family initiated a GoFundMe campaign. Over €58,000 has been raised, but the anticipated expenses are higher. Describing Carol as incredibly compassionate, Jack emphasized the urgency of bringing her back for rehabilitation to enhance her chances of full recovery.

The family detailed Carol’s extensive care requirements on the fundraising page, highlighting the insurance refusal and soliciting donations to cover her medical transport and ongoing treatment costs. With time being of the essence, Carol’s loved ones are racing against the clock to secure the necessary funds for her return.
