“UK Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Flooding from Storm Ingrid”

Britons are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for rain. Parts of western England and Wales are expected to experience persistent rain from Friday early morning until Saturday morning. The warning, issued at 10:46 am today, warns of potential flooding across the UK due to Storm Ingrid.

According to the Met Office, Storm Ingrid, named by the Portuguese weather service IPMA, will bring heavy rain and strong winds to southwest England and south Wales on Friday, tapering off by Saturday morning. The forecast indicates an initial band of rain early on Friday could bring 10-20 mm of rain in a short period on already saturated ground. Following a brief respite, more heavy rain is expected later on Friday and overnight, with an additional 15-20 mm of rain anticipated by Saturday morning, potentially reaching 30-40 mm in some areas. The ground’s saturation levels increase the risk of flooding, alongside strong winds and coastal gales.

Residents are cautioned about potential power cuts and disruption to services. Preparing in advance for power outages with essential items like torches, batteries, and mobile phone chargers is recommended. Transport delays are expected on road, rail, air, and ferry services, with impacts on bus and train schedules. Coastal areas may experience spray, large waves, and flooding in some homes and businesses, affecting roads and communities.

People in the affected regions are advised to create flood plans and emergency kits in case of rising waters, while travelers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys. The areas most at risk include South West England and Wales.
