“Trump Warns Oman as Iran Collaborates on Strait Strategy”

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again issued a warning to Oman as Iran announces collaboration with the Gulf nation on a strategy to regulate shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Reopening the strait has been a primary demand from the U.S.

As the 60-day negotiation period for a peace agreement between the United States and Iran nears its end, there is no news of an extension, and both parties appear to be as far apart as when discussions began.

Iran has reported progress in discussions with Oman regarding a plan for vessels to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, with efforts underway to finalize a joint statement. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, an agreement has been reached on the transit route map, although specific details have not been disclosed. The proposed deal would enable ships to pass through the strait without fees or tolls during an interim phase, entering near Iran and exiting close to Oman.

President Trump previously made threats against Oman, stating in an interview with Fox News that the U.S. would take military action against Oman if it obstructed the process. This is not the first instance of Trump issuing threats towards Oman, as he previously stated that Oman would face consequences if it did not comply with expectations.

Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have claimed responsibility for attacking a ship and four military boats in the Red Sea near Mokha, Yemen, close to the Bab el-Mandab Strait. The rebels launched ballistic missiles at the vessels, causing them to capsize and catch fire, alleging that the targeted vessels belonged to Saudi Arabia.

In Iraq, drone attacks targeted two officials in the northern region, with the regional counterterrorism service attributing the attacks to the border with Iran. The attacks included one on the office of Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of Iraq’s semi-autonomous northern Kurdish region, and another on the residence of a top regional intelligence official. No casualties were reported from the attacks, and there has been no claim of responsibility.

As tensions persist in the region, the situation remains complex and volatile, with ongoing military activities and geopolitical maneuvering impacting various countries and regions.
