At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump caused a stir by repeatedly mixing up Greenland and Iceland during his highly anticipated speech. The confusion arose as Trump claimed that NATO used to refer to him as “daddy” until he mentioned Iceland, which he seemed to confuse with Greenland. Despite the public attention drawn to his geographical slip-ups, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended Trump on social media, stating that the public had misunderstood his remarks.
During his speech, Trump also mispronounced Azerbaijan as “Aberbaijan” while correctly identifying Armenia, previously referred to as Albania. He highlighted America’s global power to over 60 world leaders present, asserting the United States’ dominance and claiming that no other nation could secure Greenland besides the U.S.
While the speech faced criticism for the mix-ups, Leavitt maintained that it was well-received, describing it as a success with positive reviews. She emphasized Trump’s inspirational tone and the favorable reactions from the audience and world leaders in attendance.
