“Tragic Shark Attack Claims Life of 12-Year-Old Boy”

The family of a 12-year-old boy is mourning the loss of their son after a tragic shark attack. Nico Antic was playing with friends near a rock ledge when a shark bit him, causing severe leg injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Nico passed away at Sydney Children’s Hospital. This incident, believed to involve a bull shark, was one of four reported shark attacks in New South Wales within a short period.

In a statement, Nico’s parents described him as a cheerful and active young boy with a kind heart. They expressed gratitude to the first responders and medical teams for their care. An online fundraiser has raised $240,000 to support the family. The shark attack was the first of a series of attacks in the following days, with Nico’s friends being praised for their bravery in rescuing him from the water.

Steve Pearce, the chief executive of Surf Life Saving NSW, highlighted the increased shark activity around Sydney, advising caution near river mouths due to potential shark presence. He emphasized the importance of avoiding swimming in areas with poor water quality to prevent shark encounters. Pearce recommended using local pools as safer alternatives to beaches during this period of heightened shark activity.
