The latest retail casualty to enter administration is The Original Factory Shop. The discount chain appointed administrators from Interpath Advisory last week, potentially jeopardizing 137 stores and 1,180 jobs. While the physical stores are still operating normally, the online platform has been closed during this period of assessment.
Challenges such as high cost inflation, increased labor expenses, and reduced consumer spending have plagued The Original Factory Shop, along with complications involving its third-party warehouse and logistics provider. Established in 1969, the company was acquired by Modella Capital in the previous year.
Rick Harrison, the joint administrator and managing director at Interpath, expressed regret over the company’s financial struggles, highlighting its historical importance on local high streets. Efforts will be made to sustain store operations while exploring restructuring options in the upcoming weeks.
