Teenager Faces Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Pub Altercation

A teenager has made an appearance in court facing charges of manslaughter after a tragic incident resulting in the death of a woman outside a pub. Liam Moor is accused of causing the death of Lisa Denton in what is believed to be a single-punch altercation near Charlie’s Bar in North Shields at approximately 10 pm on Saturday, January 24.

Lisa, aged 40 and a resident of the same town, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away the following morning. Moor, a 19-year-old laborer at a construction site, was arrested and subsequently charged with manslaughter, according to reports from Chronicle Live.

During his court appearance at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 27, Moor confirmed his identity, date of birth, and bail address while visibly emotional. Due to the seriousness of the alleged offense, no plea was entered. The prosecution, represented by Clare Haswell, alleged that Moor assaulted Lisa with a single punch outside Charlie’s Bar.

The defense, represented by Mark Harrison, acknowledged the tragic nature of the incident but did not elaborate further. Moor was granted conditional bail by the magistrates. The conditions include observing an electronically-monitored curfew from 9 pm to 7 am, staying away from a designated area in North Shields (also monitored electronically), and reporting weekly to Bedlington Police Station. Additionally, he is prohibited from contacting prosecution witnesses.

Presiding magistrate Robert Waddell informed Moor that his next court appearance would be at Newcastle Crown Court on February 24 at 10 am, as the magistrates’ court does not have jurisdiction over the case. Following the incident, another woman in her 50s was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender and is currently on police bail pending further investigation.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton expressed condolences to Lisa’s family, calling the incident tragic. He urged the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the legal process as it unfolds.
