Dispatch, a superhero narrative game that debuted last year, was released on Nintendo Switch today with some notable differences compared to other platforms. AdHoc’s story-centric game received high acclaim for its exceptional writing and well-developed characters. Despite its comic book art style, Dispatch delved into mature themes, featuring sexual content and nudity in certain scenes.
The original version of the game offered an option to censor explicit language, which involved placing black boxes over genitalia and other exposed body parts while muting sexually suggestive dialogue. Even gestures like middle fingers were obscured.
While players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC can choose whether to enable profanity censorship, on Nintendo Switch, it is automatically activated. In an interview with NintendoLife, AdHoc explained that the mandatory censorship was necessary to meet Nintendo’s content standards for the platform.
Although the Nintendo Switch is typically geared towards younger audiences, it has hosted explicit content before. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, which feature nudity, are available on the platform without censorship.
Some gamers have expressed dissatisfaction with the enforced censorship in Dispatch on the Nintendo Switch, with one Reddit user calling for the option to disable it. Several players have even requested refunds due to the situation.
Despite the initial hiccup on the Nintendo Switch, Dispatch enjoyed immense popularity in 2025, selling over 1 million copies in its first 10 days and surpassing 3 million by the end of the year. AdHoc is contemplating a potential second season following the success of the first episodes, but no official confirmation or timeline has been announced yet.
