The body of the second missing swimmer from Budleigh Salterton on Christmas Day has been discovered off Exmouth, Devon. The man, believed to be 63-year-old Matthew Upham, was found following a major search operation on January 25. Authorities, including police and coastguard, were present near Orcombe Point in Exmouth during the recovery, according to reports.
Witnesses observed a police and coastguard presence at Sandy Bay from Orcombe Point, with marked vehicles and a cordon in place. Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the recovery of a man’s body along the shoreline. The spokesperson mentioned that emergency services responded to reports of a body near Exmouth Beach, with the deceased believed to be a 64-year-old man from Budleigh Salterton.
Recently, the body of the first missing swimmer was also found at Sandy Bay in Exmouth. Law enforcement and coastguard were alerted to the scene on January 20. While formal identification is pending, authorities suspect the individual to be the 47-year-old swimmer who failed to return to Budleigh Salterton. The identity of the first swimmer has not been disclosed publicly, but their next of kin has been notified.
