The Prince and Princess of Wales have emerged victorious in a legal dispute against a French magazine for publishing an excessively invasive article and intrusive paparazzi images. The photos, featured in Paris Match, depicted William and Kate with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, enjoying a vacation in the Alps in April.
Following the lawsuit, the publication has been directed to publicly acknowledge the privacy violation in its magazine and cover the legal expenses of William and Kate in France. Although compensation was initially requested, the royal couple opted for the publication of a formal acknowledgment instead. A French court has mandated Paris Match to issue a notice recognizing the breach of privacy, with a penalty of €10,000 per publication until compliance.
A spokesperson from Kensington Palace stated, “Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales have achieved success in legal actions taken in France against the publisher of Paris Match, which released an excessively intrusive article and long-range paparazzi snapshots of their private family holiday in the Alps in April.”
“The court’s decision confirms that, despite their public obligations as members of The Royal Family, Their Royal Highnesses and their children are deserving of privacy and family time, free from unlawful intrusion and disturbance.”
“The Prince and Princess of Wales are dedicated to safeguarding their private family moments and ensuring their children can grow up shielded from excessive scrutiny and interference. They are prepared to take any necessary steps to maintain these boundaries.”
