“Royal Recipe: Cheesy Baked Eggs Fit for a King”

When thinking about the dining preferences of the Royal Family, one might envision extravagant dishes like roast pheasant or caviar served in the luxurious setting of Buckingham Palace.

However, a simple recipe from Clarence House reveals that Royal cuisine can also be uncomplicated. There is a dish that King Charles enjoys, which can be easily made in your own kitchen.

The dish, named ‘Cheesy Baked Eggs’, was shared in 2020 when the current monarch was still the Prince of Wales. The recipe, posted on Clarence House’s Instagram account, includes various cheeses and six other ingredients.

“During the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, one thing that brings comfort to many is good food,” remarked His Majesty at the time. “It is distressing to learn that this crisis poses a threat to one of life’s greatest pleasures – British cheese!”

For those interested in trying Royal cooking, Clarence House suggests gathering the following ingredients:

To start, grease a baking dish and layer it with wilted greens and tomatoes for a visually appealing base. Place these around the edges of the dish, leaving a hollow in the center.

Once the base is set, sprinkle creamy cheese and chopped basil over it. Additional seasoning and sliced cold cuts can be added at this point, according to preference.

After creating a well, season with salt and pepper, crack an egg into the center, pour in 80ml of double cream around the yolk, and top it off with a generous amount of grated hard cheese.

“Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for eight to 10 minutes,” as per instructions from Clarence House. “Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving.”

King Charles is not the only Royal Family member who appreciates baked eggs. <a aria-label="Tom Parker BowlesLink opens in a new tab." class="TextLink_text-link
