“Residents Evacuated as Suspicious Item Found in Terrorism Arrest”

Residents are being advised to leave their residences after an “item” was found subsequent to an arrest related to terrorism. A 21-year-old man was apprehended under suspicion of trying to join a prohibited group, specifically Daesh, which is a violation of Section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

An extensive deployment of law enforcement, including officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), Counter Terrorism Policing South West (CTPSW), and Avon and Somerset Police, was observed in Francombe Grove, Horfield, earlier today (Tuesday, January 20). The operation was led by CTPSE, and during a search of a residence, a “questionable item” was discovered.

As a precautionary measure, a “limited number” of residents in nearby homes were instructed to evacuate due to safety concerns. The police have cordoned off the area while examining the object.

The individual who was arrested is currently in police custody, according to Bristol Live.

The operation was planned in advance, and there will be an increased police presence in Horfield. Chief Inspector Keith Smith, from Avon and Somerset Police, reassured, “We understand that arrests like this can raise concerns within the local community, but we want to assure everyone that this was part of a prearranged operation by our partners at Counter Terrorism Policing South East.

“To guarantee public safety, a cordon is now in place around a residence while an item is being evaluated. A few individuals in neighboring properties have been requested to vacate their homes as a precautionary measure.

“We appreciate the cooperation of the local community during police operations. Should anyone have any concerns or relevant information, please do not hesitate to contact us.”

A spokesperson for CTPSE announced, “Officers from CTPSE arrested a man in Bristol today in connection with a terrorism-related offense.
