Prince of Wales Dodges Epstein Questions in Saudi Visit

Amid the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the Epstein scandal, the Prince of Wales found himself evading questions about his controversial uncle during his visit to Saudi Arabia. However, it was revealed that Epstein had connections with various royal families globally, including mentions of monarchies in Europe and the Middle East in released files.

A recent report by The New York Times unveiled a framed photograph of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS, displayed in Epstein’s New York mansion. Correspondence from Epstein to billionaire Tom Pritzker in December 2016 mentioned a gesture from MBS, which included sending a tent with carpets.

During his three-day trip to Saudi Arabia, Prince William arrived without his wife, Kate Middleton, who stayed in the UK to be with their children. The decision may have been influenced by past controversies, such as the Riyadh Comedy Festival, which faced criticism for whitewashing the country’s human rights record.

Despite efforts to showcase progress, such as women’s increased participation in sports and workforce, Saudi Arabia still ranks low on the Global Gender Gap Index. The country’s system of guardianship, reforms notwithstanding, continues to restrict women’s rights in various aspects of their lives.

While MBS has orchestrated various global events to portray a modern image of Saudi Arabia, concerns over human rights violations persist. The current royal visit raises questions about the diplomatic strategies being employed and the true impact on promoting change in the region.
