Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that resulted in serious injuries to a Winnipeg Sea Bears player earlier this month, according to police reports. Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being attacked at the club in the early hours of August 3, as confirmed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the establishment, were apprehended on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings.
Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed by authorities, it was disclosed to be situated on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues. Allen has undergone medical evaluations, received a prognosis, and is presently recuperating at home, as mentioned in a statement released by the team on Thursday.
Allen expressed that the assault was unwarranted and should not have occurred to him or anyone else, emphasizing his resilience by stating, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”
