“Mother of Slain Girl Urges Support for Police Against Gun Violence”

The mother of Olivia Pratt-Korbel, the nine-year-old girl who was tragically killed in a shooting incident almost three years ago, is calling on communities to support law enforcement in combating gun violence. Olivia was fatally shot in her residence by Thomas Cashman while he was pursuing a rival drug dealer on August 22, 2022.

Olivia, who would have been 12 years old now, expressed fear to her mother after hearing gunshots in Dovecot, Liverpool. As the third anniversary of Olivia’s passing approaches, her mother Cheryl Korbel, 49, shared her profound grief, stating that the loss of her daughter at such a young age is unbearable. She highlighted the pain of not being able to witness Olivia grow up, get married, or fulfill her aspirations.

Following Olivia’s death, which was the third fatal shooting in Liverpool that week, Merseyside Police received additional funding to enhance community relations and address the issue of silence regarding criminal activities in the area. This initiative, known as “Evolve,” has resulted in a significant increase in community tip-offs, leading to numerous arrests, drug seizures, weapon confiscations, and monetary asset recoveries.

Cheryl emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety and preventing similar tragedies. She urged individuals to speak up if they have any information related to criminal activities. Additionally, she recently visited Olivia’s Memorial Tree with Tim Edwards, a fellow parent who lost his daughter in a separate shooting incident, underscoring the shared pain and support among families affected by such violence.

The families of the victims expressed their ongoing struggles and the importance of seeking justice for their loved ones. They called on individuals with knowledge about the crimes to come forward and help prevent further loss and suffering within the community. They emphasized the need for collective action in addressing violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
