“Morrisons Slashes Baileys Price to £11 for Festive Season”

Morrisons has reduced the price of 1L Baileys to £11 in anticipation of the festive season. Normally priced at £14, this offer represents a saving of £3. The promotion will be available until Sunday, November 2 in England and Wales, and no loyalty card is required to benefit from the discounted rate.

At present, the same-sized bottle of Baileys is priced at £13.98 in Asda, £22 (£14 with a Nectar card) in Sainsbury’s, and £22.50 (£14 with a Clubcard) in Tesco. Last year, Morrisons had dropped the price of Baileys to £8.50, but customers needed to spend £45 and be part of the Morrisons More membership program to qualify for the deal.

In the previous year, Sainsbury’s and Tesco had offered Baileys for £10 to Nectar and Clubcard members. Baileys is a creamy Irish liqueur made from whiskey, cream, and hints of cocoa and vanilla.

In other news, Morrisons is gearing up to convert a multitude of corner shops into Morrisons-branded convenience stores. The supermarket chain plans to launch 250 new Morrisons Daily convenience outlets next year by enabling corner shop proprietors to rebrand their stores as Morrisons franchises. This expansion strategy will mainly focus on areas where Morrisons has limited presence, such as cities in the south and the Midlands.

This move signals a substantial acceleration of Morrisons’ expansion plans, with the company aiming to open roughly 160 convenience stores this year. A Morrisons spokesperson stated, “Over the last few years, we’ve established a significant network of over 1,700 stores, and we have ambitious initiatives in place to introduce Morrisons Daily stores to more customers across the UK through a franchise model that allows us to expand our store network rapidly and efficiently.”

Simultaneously, Morrisons is in the process of closing down 103 stores, cafes, florists, and pharmacies this year. The supermarket has already shuttered 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores as part of a major restructuring effort. Moreover, Morrisons has announced the closure of over 50 cafes, 13 florists, four pharmacies, and all 18 Market Kitchens. Additionally, 35 meat counters and 35 fish counters are also set to close permanently, as a “wide-ranging review” found these services to be financially unsustainable.

Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, remarked, “In some stores where we are closing counters or Cafés, we plan to work with third parties to provide a relevant specialist offer. Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues.”
