“Metal Cylinder Found on Devon Beach Prompts Emergency Response”

A significant discovery at a popular beach in Devon led to temporary closures in the area. Torre Abbey Sands, the main beach in Torquay, was sealed off, along with nearby roads, when a large metal cylinder was found on the shore. The public alerted authorities around 4pm, prompting a swift emergency response.

By 6.50pm, a bomb squad was on-site to assess the object. After their evaluation, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit confirmed that the object posed no threat. Police began removing the cordons by 7pm, allowing the public to access the area once again. Witnesses mentioned that the seafront was off-limits to both vehicles and pedestrians during the incident.

Reports indicated that traffic on A379 was disrupted from 4.50pm due to the closure. The situation escalated when the cordon, initially lifted at 7pm, was reinstated for safety reasons. Emergency services swiftly acted to relocate people away from the beach. Eventually, the area returned to normalcy as the cordon was completely removed.

Despite these events, details about the object’s origin or purpose remain unclear. Authorities, including Devon and Cornwall Police, have been approached for further information.
