More options are now available for homes seeking to watch TV without a monthly fee. Freely, which debuted in 2024, initially provided access to live channels through a broadband connection on select new TVs. However, in the past 18 months, more TV brands such as Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have adopted Freely. Previously, individuals had to purchase a new TV from a tech retailer to access live and on-demand content through the platform.
Fortunately, Manhattan’s technology team has introduced a new Freely-powered set-top box named Aero 4K. This device grants instant access to over 60 free live channels and on-demand content, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions. Additionally, the Aero 4K features voice search, viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live shows. Users with subscriptions to services like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the box.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has garnered significant popularity. Currys is the first UK store to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, and the latest update indicates that it is currently out of stock. The retailer confirmed that the device sold out quickly but will be restocked shortly. Interested individuals can sign up on Currys’ website to receive alerts when the product becomes available again, and it is anticipated that other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, will start selling the device soon.
Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which deliver shows, sports, and movies over the internet without the need for an aerial or dish. Transitioning to streaming provides benefits such as easier installation without requiring a technician’s visit and more frequent software updates.
The TV landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely recently surpassing one million users. This number is expected to rise as more individuals abandon traditional viewing methods in favor of streaming services.
