A commercial aircraft issued a mid-air distress signal while ascending to 5,400 feet above Europe.
Flight LH2249 operated by Lufthansa departed Lyon for Munich at 13:51 local time yesterday, almost an hour later than scheduled. The crew activated an emergency signal (squawk 7700) citing a mechanical issue with the landing gear, as per AirLive.
Initially flying at a low altitude over French airspace, the plane eventually ascended to 10,000 feet upon entering Switzerland. However, around 15:17, it initiated circular flight patterns near Lausanne, Switzerland, triggering emergency response preparations at Geneva Airport.
The aircraft safely landed at 15:39, causing a temporary suspension of airport operations as it remained on the runway. Following a report from AirLive, the Lufthansa flight was later towed to a remote parking stand, allowing normal flight operations to resume.
