This update specifically impacts older models like the Kindle 5 and the Kindle Paperwhite 1st Gen, resulting in the inability to add or read new content.

It is important to note that current owners will retain access to their existing book libraries, as those will remain accessible. However, after the impending deadline, the affected Kindles will essentially function as “read-only” devices.
Amazon stated, “Starting May 20, 2026, users with Kindle and Kindle Fire devices from 2012 and earlier will no longer have the ability to acquire, borrow, or download new content from the Kindle Store.” The company highlighted that while these models were supported for at least 14 to 18 years, technological advancements necessitate a discontinuation of support for these older devices.
