A significant update has been released following the receipt of threatening messages by two schools in Liverpool this week.
Parents reported receiving notifications from Holly Lodge Girls’ College confirming the closure of the school at 2:55 pm on Monday, January 19, due to malicious communications. The school was placed on lockdown for investigation purposes, resulting in students being kept on campus beyond regular hours for their safety. Subsequently, at 3:25 pm, students were allowed to leave the premises as usual.
Merseyside Police later confirmed that the school action was triggered by a hoax threat. Following this incident, West Derby School, located near Holly Lodge, informed parents of a closure on Wednesday due to a “serious emergency situation.”
Authorities believe that multiple schools in the area received similar hoax emails. Liverpool Council and Merseyside issued a joint statement reassuring parents of the schools’ safety protocols in response to potential threats. They emphasized ongoing police investigations regarding the hoax messages and confirmed that there have been no credible threats in Liverpool.
The safety of students and staff remains a top priority, with gratitude extended to parents for their cooperation. Parents are urged to follow guidance from their child’s school and report any relevant information to the authorities through designated channels.
