A 21-year-old history student in France committed a bank robbery with six friends, disguising themselves with wigs and sunglasses. The group escaped on mopeds after taking the money. The student, Hélène Castel, was arrested 25 years later in Mexico, where she had been living under a new identity as a psychotherapist named Florencia Rivera Martin.
Castel admitted her involvement in the robbery, which led to a tragic loss of life during the heist. While four of her accomplices faced legal consequences earlier, Castel managed to evade capture until her recent arrest. Despite considering turning herself in over the years, she chose to remain in exile to raise her daughter, who was the same age as Castel was during the robbery.
Upon her arrest, Castel expressed surprise as she had believed no one was actively searching for her. Despite facing a potential 20-year prison sentence, she received a two-year suspended sentence for her role in the bank robbery. Castel acknowledged the need to confront her past and start anew in France.
