“Former Principal Sentenced for Child Abuse Fantasies”

A former principal, Dean Juric, has received a suspended sentence after engaging in online conversations with pedophiles expressing his attraction to “young girls.” Juric, 54, who was in charge of St Robert of Newminster School in Sunderland, was exposed by an undercover officer posing as a pedophile on a social media platform. Juric was discovered sharing child sexual abuse fantasies with other men and was found to possess over 30,000 indecent images of children on his phone.

Juric, residing in Tynemouth, admitted to three counts of producing and circulating indecent images of children and one count of distributing an indecent image. He was sentenced to eight months in jail, suspended for 18 months. Newcastle Crown Court heard that Juric shared a photo of two schoolgirls in uniform, approximately 15 years old, and later sent an indecent image of a girl around 14 years old in a sexual pose with partially exposed breasts.

Prosecutors revealed that in November 2024, Juric messaged the decoy, inquiring about their interests and sending a video of a young girl in tight clothing. Subsequently, a police raid on his residence led to the seizure of two mobile phones. Investigators discovered a significant number of indecent images on one of the phones, along with conversations between Juric and other pedophiles on the social media platform.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Judge Graham Robinson ordered Juric to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and undergo 40 days of rehabilitation. The judge acknowledged Juric’s fall from grace after years of dedicated service and commended his efforts to address his criminal behavior. Juric was also mandated to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Following the sentencing, a representative from Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, the organization overseeing St Robert of Newminster School, condemned Juric’s actions and assured that due process was meticulously followed. The Trust cooperated fully with Northumbria Police during the investigation and emphasized the priority of safeguarding the pupils and upholding the integrity of the process.

The Trust confirmed referring Juric to teaching authorities for potential disciplinary action and expressed gratitude to the police for their commitment to justice. They highlighted their dedication to rebuilding and fortifying the school community post the distressing incident, emphasizing that safeguarding remains a top priority. Parents and caregivers were assured of ongoing efforts to protect every child under the Trust’s care.
