A father has expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of his “exceptional” sons who tragically died in a head-on collision. Mason Ellis, aged six, and Louie Ellis, aged eight, were passengers in a vehicle driven by their mother, Amy Sheppard, in the vicinity of Sutton on Sea in Lincolnshire when the car veered out of control, resulting in a collision with another vehicle in October 2023. Amy Sheppard received a 20-month suspended sentence at Lincoln Crown Court in December 2025, with Judge James House KC emphasizing the importance of mercy in his judicial role.
The boys’ father, Laurie Ellis, has now shared a touching tribute to his sons, describing them as “two remarkable boys whose love, laughter, and energy brightened every place they entered.” Laurie praised Louie for his joyful spirit and determination, highlighting his passion for playing football with his father and uncle every weekend regardless of the weather. Louie was also a devoted supporter of Liverpool FC, aspiring to become a professional footballer like his idol, Mo Salah.
When not engaged in outdoor activities, Louie enjoyed playing video games and baking cookies with his siblings and stepmother, Charlotte. Laurie recalled Louie’s inclusive nature, always making everyone feel welcomed and valued. As for Mason, Laurie described his world as being fueled by imagination and creativity, noting his love for Mario-themed adventures and games that brought him endless joy.
Mason also cherished moments spent on his father’s gaming computer and quiet bonding times with his grandfather, watching him craft wooden toys. Laurie highlighted the boys’ fondness for outings with their grandmother and aunt, emphasizing their deep affection for their younger brother and their exemplary roles as caring and protective older siblings.
The siblings were described as having “beautiful souls” that attracted people to them with their kindness and warmth. Laurie expressed profound love for Louie and Mason, acknowledging the irreplaceable void left by their untimely departure and the enduring impact on their family.
