EDF is introducing a new initiative where customers can enjoy complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak hours on weekdays. This program, called the Sunday Saver challenge, will be available in February. Participants will receive between four to 16 hours of free electricity on the following Sunday by shifting their consumption away from peak hours, typically between 4pm and 7pm.
Customers with smart meters can enroll in the program until February 1st. EDF has reported that more than 260,000 households have already benefited from over 17 million hours of free electricity through the Sunday Saver initiative, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits.
In December, over 100,000 customers received eight hours of free electricity during the festive season, totaling over 910,000 free hours provided by EDF. Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, stating that the Sunday Saver challenge has helped her family cope with rising living costs.
Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, emphasized the program’s benefits during the high winter billing period, highlighting the opportunity for households to reduce costs and decrease their carbon footprint. Participants can monitor their progress through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, enabling them to track their energy usage and make more sustainable choices.
Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle tariffs within the next month. These tariffs, including GoElectric, Pod Point EV Exclusive, Evolve, and Pod Point Plug & Power, provide five hours of discounted electricity every night from 12am to 5am for both home and electric vehicle charging.
