A significant change is imminent for certain households that rely on BT TV for streaming content as they may face restrictions. The concern arises as some BT TV set-top boxes are losing compatibility with the popular Netflix app due to upgrades being implemented by the streaming service. This evolution is leaving older hardware incapable of keeping pace with the advancements.
Which devices will be impacted by this change? Two BT TV boxes are slated to lose support for Netflix:
– TV Recordable Box (G4)
– TV Box (Z4)
Explaining the situation, BT stated, “Netflix is enhancing its app to deliver an optimal user experience, resulting in incompatibility with these specific boxes.”
According to a report by Cordbusters, the alteration is scheduled to begin on March 4, 2026. Post this deadline, customers using the affected boxes will no longer access Netflix content like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they transition to newer equipment.
BT has affirmed that newer models will not encounter the Netflix service interruption, emphasizing, “The rest of our EE TV Boxes, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to be fully supported.”
Additionally, BT reassured customers that their Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected, stating, “Your Netflix subscription will not be impacted, and you can still view content on supported devices.”
Individuals who suspect they own one of the influenced boxes are encouraged to reach out to BT to explore upgrading to a more recent model.
Netflix will remain accessible through alternative devices such as smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
