United Utilities advised affected residents not to use hot water taps, dishwashers, or washing machines until the issue resolved. Local residents shared their experiences, with one describing their bath resembling a “sand pit” due to the discoloration. Concerned individuals reported purchasing filters for drinking water and resorting to bottled water as a precaution. United Utilities reassured customers that the discolored water, though unappealing, was unlikely to be harmful and recommended running cold water taps until the water cleared.

Councillor Danny Fletcher disclosed that the brown water resulted from the disturbance in the water mains, stirring up old sediment like iron and manganese.
