Ariana Grande has once again criticized the Trump administration for using her music in a social media post. This time, the Team Trump account included her song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” in a TikTok video that tagged the Grammy-winning singer. The post featured clips of President Trump approaching a podium to speak, with text quoting from Grande’s 2024 hit track. Grande responded in the comments section, stating, “Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false.”

This incident follows Grande’s previous objection in mid-June when her song “Bye” was used in a TikTok video about immigration policy, prompting her to denounce the administration’s actions as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”

Grande joins a long list of artists, including Taylor Swift and ABBA, who have criticized the Trump team for using their music without permission. Various musicians, such as Neil Young, John Fogerty, Queen, the Rolling Stones, ABBA, Beyoncé, and estates of Leonard Cohen, Prince, and Tom Petty, have all expressed objections to Trump’s use of their songs.

In response to unauthorized use, some artists have issued cease and desist orders or taken legal action. Artists like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny have swiftly taken steps to remove their music from Team Trump’s social media posts, citing copyright infringement claims.

While political campaigns can obtain licensing packages to use music legally, individual artists have the right to opt out of such usage for personal reasons. Artists who have not opted out can still voice their objections to unauthorized use of their music by campaigns or other entities.
